Yidi Chen ASA002 WEEK4

Before reading the article, Who Killed Soek-Fang Sim, I did not know how bad discrimination would be on the Asian American. I am surprised that even teachers have discriminations. Now, it makes sense why there are so many kids who are racists. School is the place for kids to not only absorb knowledge, but also the place to accept the right concepts and learn how to have good humanity. How can a student be not racist if their teacher is racist? In the article, it is clear to see the change of mindset on how to deal with discrimination. In the beginning, she chooses to bear it and receive the lowest income in silence, even though she was the most published author with the most innovative teaching record. She wanted to rebel against the discrimination and tried to defend herself by asking help from a lawyer and suing the school. However, the cost of defense is way beyond her capability. She would bankrupt by defending herself. After she dreamed Soek-Fang Sim several times, she realized that she needed to fight back or she could not afford her family. She also realized it was not the money to stop her rebelling. She did not have enough courage to protect herself against the majority. Now, she finally decided to pick up her evidence and walk out. Be Silent. Not. – Vijana FM

Question: why do most people choose to be silent when they rights are violated?
