Professor Valverde
The Reflection of Coronavirus
Today, more than 1 million people are confirmed to have coronavirus (COVID-19) in the world. This is an extremely large number which means approximately one of 7 thousand will be confirmed for COVID-19. COVID-19 is described as pandemic since it becomes a global outbreak disease. It is easy to spread from person to person through respiratory droplets. People can easily be infected just in 15 seconds when talking with people who are sick. Thus, keeping distance and wearing a mask is a useful strategy to reduce the risk of being infected. China did a great job of controlling this severe situation by restricting everyone to quarantine and wear masks. During the Quarantine, people only went out to buy some necessaries and they usually bought enough food for their family to eat for at least two to three weeks. More than that, no one left their homes without wearing a mask which likes what’s showing on this picture.
China made a very good example of how to control the spread of COVID-19. I hope the rest of the country can also ask their citizens to shelter in place and wear masks if they have to go outside. Quarantine sounds like an easy thing but it is extremely hard and terrible actually. I stay at home for almost 1 month and I feel like I am on the edge of insanity. I never stay at home for such a long period which definitely will extend. However, this terrible feeling cannot even be compared with what professor Valverde was experienced. She was so brave even face that kind of situation -- Discrimination, career’s inequity, and lost a baby. People usually freak out when they experienced just two of them, while she got three. I believe as the class going through, I can learn more from professor Valverde not only the knowledge but her spirit. My question about this topic is that is quarantine really a good strategy or not? A lot of companies, stores, individuals got broken because of this quarantine. Workers lost their jobs since their boss cannot afford their salaries.
