Fight the Tower: A Call to Action for Women of Color in Academia

Universities are facing the problem of corporatization, moving the focus from quality education to finding ways to increase profit. I find this very uneasing, being a student of a highly regarded research university. It’s very disheartening to hear about Valverde’s encounters, but it’s also refreshing to see how she coped and maintained herself through them. Although this may be a small portion that I have read, I can see how Valverde tries to fight this “tower”, the force that tries to tower above her in order to keep her down.

This may have been a common occurrence, but I always fail to see how this benefits the people putting Valverde down. What is the reason for denying childrearing time or the need to be vocal of events that endanger her life. It all seems completely useless and just bullying at this point

To represent this, I chose the "Asian" version of Rosie the Riveter. From what I get from this reading is that perseverance will help you pull through. Being the strong woman you can be definitely helps in the long run.
