Although "Race still matters" was a small poster with a few statistics, the information in it carried a lot of weight. At first glance at this particular reading, I thought, "Oh wow, more statistics". However, it interests me that school districts with 90% White schools spend $733 more per student compared to schools at 90% non-White schools.
Sometimes I question the sample size of these statistics. What does non-white mean in this case? Is it different for different races that categorize under "non-white"?
The pie charts took some time to understand, but the statistics show that the majority of API, Black or Latino students all attend schools that are comprised mostly of minorities. Are these the same minorities? Can we always assume that? Or is there a unity in minorities?
In all honesty, I find that the statistics for the "Beyond the Model Minority Myth" are assuming a lot. Although these may be the statistics, I feel like there are other cultural reasons that we have learned in class as to why the rates of certain Asians without high school diplomas or the amount that attend college are low. I don't think that lack of diversity takes all of the blame for that.
