A Response to Empire of Death by Mary Grafilo

ASA 2
Section 2
Week 5

Hamamoto's Empire of Death reveals many of the patterns that killers have for victims. The part that related to this class was when the suspects searched out for Asian American victims. I was terrified to hear of the son, whose father fought in the war in Vietnam. He was so angry at Asians that he entered an elementary school that was predominantly Asian and killed five children and wounded 30 others with his gun. Dahmer's one Asian victim was the most heart-wrenching to me because the young man was so close to surviving.
One pattern that I found interesting were the men's interest in the docile, submissive Asian women that they often victimized. From mail-order brides to victims of sexual sadists, Asian American women became a go-to target for white sociopaths in America. The stories also go beyond the capture of the Asian-American women to rape, sodomy and disembowelment. I didn't even know there was something that awful as disembowelment.
I guess I figured that sociopaths always have types. I've seen Criminal Minds. They like a certain kind of victim and the unsubs are each uniquely crazy. But it's interesting to consider that there are preferences to the craziest and most unpredictable kind of people like, specifically a racial trend that these murderers accept. My question is: Has the yellow fever (in terms of sociopathic killers) decreased? Since the wars are no longer in Asia, are young Asian Americans safer?
