Week 1
UC as a
Representation of California
As a
Californian university, it is only appropriate that the University of
California’s student body would reflect the both the State’s race and cultural
diversity. While the University does accept
out-of-state and international students, the majority of the University’s
student come from California. According
to the 2010 Census, California has the largest Asian population in the nation. Couple this with fifty percent of Asians
twenty-five and over having a bachelor’s degree compared to twenty eight
percent of all Americans, it is only logical that a significant portion of UC
Davis’ student body is Asian. Such
circumstances should not be seen as problematic, as the media and certain “scholars”
claim, but rather as an honest reflection of California’s widely varying ethic communities.
Question: Should the University of California reinstate
admission quota based on race?
How many Asians? |
