Section 1
Week 1
API Social Movements and Interest Groups
In the reading, “ Asian Pacific Americans’ Social Movements
and Interest Groups”, there were many cases where Asian Americans stood up and
fought for their rights, places and culture. Asian Americans were involved in
politics in order to fight for their rights and they fought to keep cultural
places such as “China Town”, “Little Saigon” and many more. I felt like Asian
Americans were involved in politics because they knew that it was the only way
they can have the ability to fight for their place in the country. Also I was
surprised to find out about the history of the places such as “China Town” especially
when the reading mentioned the racism from white people who were scared of
Asian Americans and their influences. Based on my experience in San Francisco’s
China Town, I do see the lack of support for these places. The question for this reading is, what is the worst cultural places like "China Town" could do that would cause such racism?
