Zhikun Chen A02 week 5

This week's reading, "Imperial university" by Maira Chatterjee mainly focused on the education system being used as a tool of Government's propaganda. A lot of censorship and imperial control over the higher education in the US after 9/11 caused students protests and a lot of them even ended up in jail (Chatterjee, page 5). History has shown that the control over the education system is always the most effective way to convince and even brainwash young people's mind and let them believe in the possibly "wrong" things, but only the imperial countries do that. Looking back at last week's reading, I found that university is always the target with different beneficiaries. However, they are never students. The society right now has pushed us to a point where we are begging the universities for the degrees. It's like our honor to get accepted by the university and pay a huge load of tuition fees. That makes us students vulnerable and controllable. I feel grateful for past students who fought for our rights against universities and the Government.

Comment: Apparently I didn't know the history of UC Davis well enough to appreciate the effort by those who fought.
