Objective: We want to bring awareness about the representation of Asian American athletes in American society, as well as the factors that may contribute to why such representation is the way it is. We plan to present our video in three main segments: “Do we see a lot of high profile Asian American Athletes?,” “Why or why not?,” and “Hope for Asian Americans in sports.” Our first segment’s goal is to present statistics to show give the audience an idea of how few Asian American athletes there are in the college and professional level. Our second segment goes into a discussion of various factors that aims to tackle why Asian American athletes are lowly represented. Our final segment serves to highlight athletes who may or may not be in the public spotlight.

Audience: General public, Sports fans, athletes, coaches, and other Asian Americans to acknowledge and possibly change their perception of Asian Americans in sports. Coaches to possibly accept more Asian Americans into sports. Asian Americans to encourage them to participate more in sports.

Indicate whether your video is complete or a work in progress.
  • Wip - needs edited audio parts (bgm, voiceover) and additional text, some work on the graphics as well
Anything else you would like specific feedback on from your peers (e.g. music, voice over, edits, transitions, use of theory, scenes to delete, etc. ).
  • Is there anything that would be better off not in it? Anything to add?

  1. Comments from A04_Toan Tran_Angela Alejandro_Zaige Wang:

    - We love the topic! It's such an important topic to bring awareness to as it reinforces more representation of Asian Americans!
    - More emphasis can be put on the issue (have a shot where it says something like: we need more representation in sports)
    - Very strong beginning with the statistics—good choice, because it implied a need for more representation
    - Some shots such as the aerial shot following Nathan Chen's section felt out of place and as an audience, it was confusing to follow along and understand the intention/purpose of it
    - A preface before the shots of the athletes to understand why they are so important and why they are being shown
    - Suggestion: Accomplishments of the athletes can be added to show the weight and importance of them
    - More info can be shown for the shots of the athletes (e.g. names, stats, etc.)
    - Editing-wise: The ken-burn effects on the still photos can be more intentional and move towards their face instead of panning to something that can confuse the audience such as a racket/wave of water
    - The quote by Jeremy Lin was quite long to read and could possibly be put on a black screen maybe to show more focus
    - In general, more voice-overs can be done to to engage the audience and increase understanding
    - A call to action can be added to get the objective across to your audience (provide resources so that the audience can 1. participate in more sports 2. be more aware of current AA athletes and the lack of representation)
    - Overall, a great start! Can't wait to see the final product :)
