Week 8 Tianxing Sun A02

This week, I read the article “Teaching Justice and Living Peace: Body, Sexuality, and Religious Education in Asian- American Communities” by Boyung Lee, which focuses on the taboos of the Asian population about sex. It includes references to many Confucian ideas. The author mentions how women are suppressed in many Asian countries. "Sexual desire". He also mentioned many Asian regions. Once they talk about sex, it is a taboo, and everyone will not talk about it in public. The author's insights on this issue remind me of the country in which I live—China, how different people's views on sex are from the United States. But at the same time, I don't fully agree with the author's pointsof view. I recently saw a post on the Chinese social media, HUPU, similar to Reddit. The story is that if everyone's daughter or son is found to have sex in junior high school and high school, what will happen as a parent. This post became the top ten pageviews on the day. But the answers are the same: if the son has sex, he will be educated to take safety measures and compensate the girls who have sex with him. If a daughter has sex, everyone's remarks are "sad", "sad", or ask a boy who has sex with him to lose money. This kind of difference has been recognized by most netizens. In China, this may be the mainstream view. But is this view wrong? I don't think so. In a society like China, for young people, sex education is lacking. Many people do not understand their bodies and do not know how to use contraception. In order to avoid the risk of pregnancy, girls are always asked by their parents not to spend the night outside, not to live in a room with their boyfriend, and so on. I believe that many Chinese parents have avoided many risks. These phenomenon may not be correct, but these behaviors are very common and effective in China.

Question: Why do Chinese parents be extremely strict to teenagers' sexual behavior?
