The “Four Prisons” and the Movements of Liberation
It’s amazing to find out that Asian Americans piggybacked their movement alongside other minorities of the period. Seeing the movements made by Malcolm X, the amplification of the movement for minorities was able to gain traction when there was a mass behind the cause. The notion of the prisons, especially in the sense of society, was apparent as opposition against these movements began to appear in the 70s.
Something I wonder is what if we didn’t have the activists to spur a movement. I’m sure Asian Americans would still find and build communities within themselves to strengthen their ties and become a solid community. But how would history have remained the same if we stayed as a passive presence
The image focuses on my wonder if Malcolm X had not been around during the movement. This photo, or more specifically, this event was the one that helped push minority movements as Malcolm X was declared a martyr for the cause.
