An Important Point: A Reactionary Response to "Nothing is More Important than Thinking Dialectically"

Jonathan Reifman
ASA 2  Section 2
Week 1

In her article, Grace Lee Boggs advocates to her reader that there is great need in the world for a new movement for social and racial justice; a movement which would take new form compared to struggles of the past. This new type of movement would be one which sees peoples of lower socioeconomic class band together "horizontally" to take action for the rights of undeveloped nations. She makes reference to a Mexican movement, where a group known as the Zapatistas took control of cities for the purpose of allowing the under-privileged a voice to make known their plight.
Although her intentions are benevolent, her call to action is ultimately rather vague.  Without a more structured proposal, this social movement she calls for can never materialize. With her single reference to the Zapatistas, she claims that Southern portion of the globe has been made substantially better in terms of social and racial injustice. In light of recent events, this claim may be the candidate of particular criticisms. I agree with her ideal of uniting the common-man, however her stance must supply more concrete detail.

Question: What other social movements which have occured exemplify the ideals the author champions?
