Week 7-Margirie Dublin

The administration held firm on their decisions not to let outside movements be acknowledged on campus. The non-violent tactics of the civil rights movement came into use when students organized and refused to let administration and police arrest students. The administration did not budge and police continued to "control" the students. About eight hundred students were arrested as hey peacefully protested by doing sit ins, yet police picked them up and arrested them. The protests that followed also helped changed the mind of the faculty to see how wrong the mass of arrests was harmful to the college. After that the administration thought it was better to move forward and give students their rights and move on from the Cold War era. 

This just like the UCD pepper spray incident seems to be ridiculous. The use of mass policing by the university is just as stated in other readings imperial. I think it is ridiculous that students who attend and pay for higher educations re being silenced because of administration. One of the main things is that students pay a ridiculous tuition in order to pay the school for its resources, not all of it may go straight to the administration but it does go to the school. Therefore students should have the right to express their rights especially since in college, we are given that information of past and continual oppression. We are taught to be out spoken and speak up, yet the university constantly tries to silence students. I believe that the Berkeley administration, would have not came up with an agreement if the police were not as forceful and the amount of students who came the next day to protest. The university is suppose to be "ours" yet we have a lot of limitations. It is great that students are allowed to speak out now and have free speech, yet I think there need to be more of freedom of speech, especially because it is such an important right to citizens. 

Why not give free speech to all of the student who are going to be the next generation to be in charge? 

How has the Free Speech movement effected the way some students are treated on campus, positively or negatively? Should free speech be restricted or limited ?
