In Why Ferguson matters to Asian Americans, Jung discusses the importance of the Ferguson incident involving the Mike Brown's death. Of course this incident is huge as the incident hugely impacts the African American community. Additionally, Jung continues to dwell in the importance of such matters to other ethnicities, specifically Asian Americans as the conversation seems to oscillate between either black or white and no in between. Moreover, Jung also goes into detail how negative incidents happening among Asians are taken with a grain of salt because the majority of people do not normally view Asians as being oppressed.
While I definitely agree African Americans have dealt with a long period of oppression, neglecting other groups of color is wrong. I definitely believe this needs to be changed and it all goes down to principle. People of color should not be divided and while others believe the fact that other ethnicities are taking place in these solidarity movements are hindering the actual cause of the movement in the first place, this is definitely a wrong mindset. If solidarity movements are to go forward, ALL people of color should be able to stand and fight because in principle, if any form of oppression is happening to anyone, we should view the act as important, rather than only focusing on one race and ethnicity.
Q: How exactly should we give importance to Asian American solidarity movements?
