Week 9
In "Why Ferguon Matters to Asian Americans," Soya Jung talks about African Americans in general. One of the key points though she discussed was the Asian identity fitting in between African American and white people stereotype. A quote that really stood out to me was:
"In that reality, Asian Americans often end up somewhere in the chasm between blackness and
whiteness."
I thought that was really interesting because that phrase because it defines a lot of American history
with the relationship between African Americans and White Americans. Over the last 100 years we have
seen important leaders such as MLK stand up for rights for African Americans and succeeded. He stood
up for what is right and that every race deserves equality. Now it can be debated whether or not racism
still exists in little bits but the main thing I think is important is the freedom the MLK and others brought
to African Americans. This idea of equality for all is essential for everyone. No one race is better than
the other so why shouldn't everyone be equal. I think we need to remember every race that does exist and
give them recognition. We're all people and we all deserve equality. For my media, I decided to use a
picture that resembles rights for all people of color. I feel it really describes what I was trying to say
in this blog.
Q: I wonder how many races people could name? This would be interesting because it could show how
well people know about other people in this country. Sometimes you can't give people and races
recognition unless you know they exist among you.
