Week 1
In the reading "Asian Americans' Social Movements and Interest Groups,"Kim Geron lays out some of the significant movements of Asian Americans as well as different struggles that we, as Asian Americans, face with the strategic political agendas of the U.S. From arrival of the Asian immigrants to demands for workers rights and citizen rights, Asian Americans have come a long way holding the position that they(we) do in the social structure of the U.S.; however, the ongoing struggles of these communities facing "pathology of Capitalism," cultural appropriation, commercialized enclaves, and more stay problematic continuously. Despite the existence of ethics enclaves, Asian Americans communities are still viewed as politically weak and submissive to the dominant culture.
While capitalism with tourism have been very closely interconnected, how does commercialization/commodification of ethnic enclaves (i.e. China town, Korea town, International district ) affect those who are within the community?
