Week 8
A02
In "What Asian Americans are Bringing to Campus Movements with Racial Justice" by Mark Tseng Putterman, we explore the idea of the presence of Asian Americans within student activism regarding social justice issues. We begin with an Asian male trying to enter protesting grounds for his work in the media but, is quickly denied access. Exploring more on the Black Lives Matters movements and the lack of presences of Asian Americans within this spaces due to where Asians fit in the "social hierarchy."
I think many of Asian activists and activism are often forgotten or not paid attention too, such as Yuri Kochiyama. Yuri Kochiyama was an activist during the same period that Malcom X was around; being a close friends of Malcom's also. Growing up I remember learning about the civil rights movement, Malcom X, and all the other great black leaders but, nothing regarding Asian American leaders.
Q: How do we shine more light on Asian American Activism?
