Week10_SophieXie_A03

This week there was only one reading which is Wei Ming Dariortis and Professor Valverde’s academic journal, “Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke.”
In this reading, the main theme is "awakening" aka "awareness." This article started off with a strong sentence "power that seeks to support itself over justice inevitably leads to oppression," telling people that power in this world create injustice sometimes, and we need to be aware of this power for our own rights. I felt the same as I was watching the Saigon video in class: with huge powers all around an over you, if you say nothing then people are going to hear nothing and there will never be changes.
When you are part of a minority group, you won't have power or influence, and the higher power won't allow that either. This is why we need activists. And in 21st century, we don't really need heroes to die for their people anymore. Instead, we need heroes who can live for their people. We need to have someone stepping out of the crowd and say the words that are lying deep down in our hearts lot loud.
I really admire activists, people who are so selfless to push themselves out there, risking to lose everything that they have. Without them, we won't be have a civil world at all. I don't think that I can ever become one, but I will root for those people.

Question: Can activists be moderate?
