Our SAPSA issue is to make the general public aware of the misrepresentation of the South Asian culture within TV shows. These misinterpretations have lead to many effects on the South Asian culture such as cultural appropriation, stereotypes, and exploitation. An example that we will focus mainly on is the Indian character Apu from the Simpsons who is voiced by a white actor. This character has lead to mockery and jokes of the South Asian race as well as stereotypes (accent, body type, skin color, etc.) to come about.
