Week 10 Zhikun Chen A02

This week's reading, "Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke" by Valverde talks about how oppression was formed and how academia helps and influences the society as a whole to fight the injustice. The Asian stereotype, as everyone knows, is that we keep quiet all the time and don't speak up. People tend to get used to the injustice around us after living with it for a while. That's when more and more injustice comes into play and forms the so-called oppression. Everyone in this society has to stay woke in order to eliminate injustice and to keep informed of inequality around us in times of conflict. In a fight game, there is defense and offense. Staying woke helps you predict the opponent's move and dodge their punches. However, counter punch and offense is certainly necessary to beat the opponent. So, staying woke is the first step to fight the injustice in society. We should also gather around and speak up to spread the information and ideas to beat the oppression. Here is when academia becomes a platform for the older generation to keep young people informed of the true environment they are living in.
