Week 10 Ziyu Wang A02

In Conclusion: Academics Awaken: Power, Resistance, and Being Woke, Professor Valverde calls others to action to fight for a righteous education system that serves the students, and not just be a profit machine for corporation. Personally, I believe a change is needed. I might sound like a hypocrite saying this since I am attending University as I  am writing this blog, but I believe that Universities has always be a hub for profit under a mask of "education". Right now the way education system works, people are simply paying for a degree. College courses are getting easier yet the cost are driving up every year. Information are free, so why pay for it? If you want to learn something, there are so many more options you have than paying ridiculous amount of money to go a university. To me, universities has always been the place for the unmotivated, for the people who doesn't have a strong enough will to learn on their own. Students enroll in universities so the school system can force them to learn through courses, grades, and exams. The real geniuses of the world doesn't need a system for them to absorb knowledge and benefit from it, they do it on their own. But those people are the rarest of all, and most people are lazy, so colleges and universities will continue to rack up cash while ignore their student body's cry for reform. So what can we do to reform the school system? Is it actually possible considering the fact that this is a massively one sided issue? Only time will tell.
