In this week, I would like to discuss about the article "The Miseducation of and by Hmong Americans" by KAOZONG N. MOUAVANGSOU. She had a lecture for us yesterday. What she said both in the lecture and in the article reminds me my personal experiences or similar experiences I heard in China. She said: "When I was little, my father said to me that everything in this world has a rule. " I heard this from my parents as well: What I should do and what rules I need to obey. When I went to school, again, I had a similar education. I learned equity and fairness. I also learned kindness and justice. But in reality, things are different. What I saw more on news were discrimination, murder, and unfair things. It seems like our education teaches us new know ledges more than how to be a good man. Yesterday, Kaozong talked about Miseducation of the Hmong as a Framework: "the educational system of a society is reflective of that society's values and beliefs." I am in total agreement with her. Discrimination really happens in our life every day. This is part of the society's bias. I grew up with learning those terms related to discrimination from books, from Internet and so on. If we an eliminate it one day and kids do not even know what those terms even mean, that is our successful day.
