This
week's reading pays attention to the feeling of guilt and the influence
of education. I am really interested in one topic in the reading:
mothering as education. Like the reading mentions that "Motherhood and
education are two sides of the same coin." It is true that the parents
are the child's first teacher in her life. This is because before
kindergarten, the child always contacts with their parents, and children
have the natural ability to imitate. I am attracted to this topic
because this topic is contradictory. Some parents don't have enough time
to accompany their children and they have to send their children to
kindergarten early. On the other hand, the author uses her personal
experience to talk about the role of the mother in the academia and work
area. After that, the author joined the PEP, which is an educational
pipeline training college students to teach ethnic studies and American
studies from elementary school through to college. When the author
worked in PEP, at the same time, her daughter was born. It is hard to
balance between the child and the work. The author expresses that it is
possible that the new mother will be stressed. This is because the
mother is worried about losing the job and how to balance between taking
care of the child and working. However, due to the help of the
community of PEP, the author's worries disappear. Like she mentions that
"In reference to my multiple roles as a community-engaged mother
scholar of color, I have been asked over and over, how do you do it all?
I think that the answer is simple: I don't do it alone." I really like
this sentence.
