Why I can’t get what I deserved?
Being a professor is one of the best jobs that everyone
likes and wants. When I was a kid, I was dreaming to become a teacher because I
thought the teacher is a great and admired job. However, in a recent reading, I found that academics
is not a place that is full of fairness and justice. In this week, we read an article called “Resistance Is Not Futile: From #adjuncthustle to Hell
Yeah!”. The author, O’Brien talked about her own experience as an adjunct
professor at the university. She said that “although my life in no way compares
to that of low-wage immigrant workers who work in garment factories, I face
conditions that could be described as exploitative in my occupation as an academic
laborer.” She mentioned that she worked very hard and spent a lot of time, but
she still worried about the job and salaries. This means she as a professor did
not get what she should get. That’s unbelievable. The academics should not treat
her like that just because of her identities.
Even facing this kind of situation, she is
still fighting not for herself but for the other colored women. She organized a
group that is specific to colored women through Facebook. Everything was done secretly
but it still works. My question is that how to keep insist when facing those
unfair treatments for many years.
