Week 7

After reading the "Care work: The Invisible Labor of Asian American Women" by Wei Ming Dariotis and Grace J. Yoo, I have deeply understanding of barriers that Asian American Women met in academia. In the article, the author claims that "Asian American women often do uncompensated, unrewarded care, particularly as they provide non-cognitive support, especially to students who are low-income or first generation in college, immigrants, or facing additional significant challenges and barriers to academic success." I am able to see that the unfair treatments to Asian American women still exist in the United States, and they seem become invisible labor who had no pay and care like the title point out. However, many Asian American women choose to stay silence and withhold their own emotion during the care work. According to the stereotypes of Americans, they think that Asian American women are fit for this job than anyone else. This definitely give too much pressure on Asian American women who work in care work are. It is unaccepted for me to see the situation that Asian American women live in such a stressful environment.
This article impressed me a lot and I really hope that more and more Americans are able to treat Asian American women like others group of people. It should be not only happen in the care work area, but also in the other area like academia and business. All race should be treated equally in a free country named United States. It's not easy for the Asian American women to survive in America and we should take care of them like they take care of us.
Problem: How can we do to improve the living condition of the Asian American women who work in care work area?
