Chiharu Ito ASA002 A04 Week6

In “Opening the Box: An International Asian Woman Scholar’s Fight”, the author tells her personal experiences as an Asian woman international student and also experiences as a worker in academia. She highlights the difficulty of the language differences, and that causes the communication difficulties, the difficulty of the performance of jobs, and prejudices that she or he is a foreigner. The prejudices from other students and coworkers pressure the author, and also, they under evaluate her works because of her race, gender, and language skills. She won the prejudices and pressures by her effort, but the environment for foreigners who look not alike “American” is not so good. I am also an international student and came to the U.S. a few years ago. The language is one of the biggest difficulties of life as an Asian in the U.S. Some people do not like Asian accent and also the accent shows who is a foreigner. It can be the trigger of discrimination, and prejudice as a foreigner makes harder to join a community.
Today, it is a very hard time to spend as an international student or employee in the U.S. because of the coronavirus pandemic. Employers easily deny employing international students because of the coronavirus, but there might be prejudice and discrimination for foreigners exist.
Question: What is the benefit and disadvantages by limiting the rights of “foreigners”?
