In the article "Academic Symbiosis: A Manifesto on Tenure and Promotion in Asian American Studies," Wei Ming Dariotis talks about her idea associates to tenure and promotion in academia. Asian-americans are not a direct target of current American xenophobia. Still, they were affected.Recent immigration policy proposals deal with both illegal and legal immigrants. In fact, illegal immigration from Asia is growing fastest.Even highly educated and skilled Chinese immigrants find it more difficult to get to the United States. Moreover, xenophobia has divided the country, and the definition of "American" has become very conservative and even closed. This affects everyone in the United States, whether they are immigrants or citizens. Likewise, Chinese americans have always been the bond between the United States and China. From the first group of Chinese students who came to the United States in the late 19th century to the large number of Chinese students and entrepreneurs who come to the United States today.Sometimes they can bring the two countries closer together (world war ii); They are also sometimes vulnerable to rising tensions between the two countries (during the Chinese exclusion period and the cold war). Therefore, understanding their experiences in the United States and the ways in which they shaped and changed American history is also important to understanding how Chinese americans shaped China and Chinese history.
