From the reading, " On some college campuses, a focus on Asian American mental health" written by Katherine Kam, stated about the issues that the Asian American students face including model minority pressures and meeting family`s needs. In the reading, it shows about how Asian American has a well-known positive stereotype that they have to manage and sustain their images, which is being smart in studies. Although I am not Asian American, I am pure Japanese and raised in the international school, and had suffered from the pressure from my fellow classmates. It was anxious about staying in the math class for me because most people ask me about the questions, and it was difficult for me to handle all questions. Also, it is true that most international Asian people have difficulties to establish a decent relationship with others, due to making a priority of studies. This could show why many Asian people have a lack of proficiency skill in speaking and create a passive attitude. In addition, it could also relate with the tiger parents, where some students were forced to study a specific subject that they don't have an interest into, but their parents have an expectancy for them. This case could also apply to my situation, where my parents seriously wanted me to study an economics major in order for me to work at my father`s firms, but it was really uncomfortable for me and it took me few weeks to persuade them.
