Week7 – Reading Response
The privatization of system once run by the government is a double-edged
sword. Privatization can help the government to has less work to worry about,
less government spending, it can improve the efficiency as well, while at the
same time, some other company is making some profit and there are more taxable,
earnings, income, money flow into the market. However, it can only be
beneficial for both parties if the system is kept under the same quality and run
it as its first created mean. Once the corporations in charge aiming for higher
profit, that’s when the privatization becomes useless. The naturalize of
monopoly, the lack of regulations, quality decreases in returns of public interest.
Once profiting is the bigger goal, the corporations at all cost
will try to maximize its profit in exchange to the misfortune of others. In
this case is the increasing of undocumented immigrant detainees, this mean that
more prison space going to be needed to detains the illegal immigrants, another
source of profit for the private prison corporations, when the government want
to decrease the prisoner population.
The detaining of illegal immigrants that have family in the
US causes negative effect onto the society as a whole. This is a butterfly effect.
Neo-liberalism exists for the capitalist, aiming for higher
profit in exchanges of others’ misfortunes.
