Week 8 Bryan_J_Magaline A01

The Article Teaching Justice and Living Peace: Body, Sexuality, and Religious Education in Asian-American Communities talks about how sexual education is still a taboo amongst the Asian American culture. The article cited that the Confucian and Christian believes combined with the Asian culture create the conservative views of sexuality in the community. Since the beginning, the Asian culture promotes the sense of belonging in the community and being different can be perceived harmful to the community. Therefore, sexual minorities who are considered as the outliers will sometimes suffer from alienation and isolation from the community. Coming from an extremely conservative background of an Asian Christian household, my parents do not tolerate any homosexual relationship in the family. It is still awkward for me to uphold the concept of homosexuality since I was brought up in this household in Asian country and community. Even though some people do shows hatred towards people who engage in homosexual relationship, I believe that everyone should still be treated equally and fairly no matter what their race, religion or believes are. I have seen many of my friends that try to hide from their parents regarding their sexual orientation. I hope that in the future people can be more open minded against sexuality.

Question: what are the types of sexuality that are still acceptable by the society? (Heterosexuality, homosexuality, bestiality, etc). Why or why not?
