Zili Zeng ASA 002 A03 Week 6

After reading the part, "Opening the Box: An International Asian Woman Scholar's Fight" by Akiko Takeyama,  a Japanese scholar who works in U.S. academic institution, I was surprised that the division of gender in academia really brought a great challenge to Akiko's position in the field of researching. One impressive example is how the process of publishing a book took place in Akiko's career. As an international scholar, it is already challenging the write a sufficient book that is expressed in a native English sound but with accurate meaning of what the author wanted to say in her own language. Akiko definitely put a lot hardworking in polishing the book but the issue is still the typical stereotype of how "good enough" a work should be in order to be "good enough". Akiko's ability in researching is limited due to the division of gender in academia and her work is underestimated due to the harsh standard of judging Asian American's work. Facing those issues, we really need to find a way to challenge against the odd rules that came with irrational decisions.
Asian-American students work to end stereotypes – Technique
This image shows that people expect Asian Americans to have the ability to do everything well and that is not true. The higher expectation brings abnormal higher standard and makes everything harder to become "good enough". One question developed from the article is that "How does the division of gender make it harder for Asian American scholars in the research field?
