In the article, "Mothering Is Liberation", professor firstly mentions that many females in academia will face more difficulties after start families and have children. However, the professor wants to change this perspective, yet being a mother can always learn a lot from the process of mothering and their children. According to the author, "mothering nurtures a mother scholar's spiritual, emotions, and political growth and strengthens her resistance in academia", which means that having children is no barrier in women's careers but the backups and motivation of doing better in their jobs. Therefore, females in academia should realize the power and energy of having children, and they should stop self-blaming and feel guilty to their family and children. While they are taking care of their families and children, they will learn how to get along with other people easily and how to take care of themselves. Having children will also force them to connect with society closely which will evoke the accumulation of life experiences. Those experiences can be applied to taking care of students and communicating with others in academia.
In the second reading, I agree with the professor's perspective that people should choose to do the jobs they enjoy in life which is no worries about financial income. When O'Brien was in academia, she saw discrimination and unequal treatment for colored women. There are not lots of things for him to do to stay in academia, so she chooses to quit and find a path she loves to achieve his life goal. She desires to help colored women and poverty communities so that she later becomes an artist and uses his unique way to show the importance of helping colored females and the poverty people in social media. As she states in the article, she wants to leave space (Starfleet) for colored women in academia to give them a better future and higher treatment in academic organizations. I appreciate what O'Brien did to bring positive energy to society and make the public pay attention to the disadvantaged group. At the same time, she enjoys his current jobs compared with his position in academia and achieves his goals to help others.
