Yi Yang, A01, Week 8

In this week's readings, what impressed me most is "She Shall Not be Moved" written by W. P. . After reading this article, I deeply realized how much pressure it is to be an Asian-American female professor. The author almost faces the questions and difficulties from everyone except the students. The only thing that supports her is her students. As a female professor of color, not only does she have to face racial discrimination, but she is also a disadvantaged group in academia as a female. One of my dreams is to devote myself to education. I also hope to become a teacher and witness the growth of students. But this article made me realize the cruel reality. I feel compelled to fight for the injustice of women professors of color in academia.

Besides, in the article "Mothering is Liberation: Giving Birth to Alagaan Pedagogy", the author still faces doubts about her ability to be a mother and a professor. Female in academia will face more difficulties after having families and babies. It's easy to dismiss all her efforts because of her race or some stereotypes. But women in academia shouldn't feel guilty about this. They should realize that having children gives them greater power. The experience of caring for families and children can be better used to help students and communicate with the society.
