Linjun Che ASA A02 Week6

In the reading "Hmong Does Not Mean Free: The Miseducation of and by Hmong Americans" by Kaozong N. Mouavangsou, the author uses personal experiences, datas and some examples to show us that Hmong Americans especially the second generations are affected by American education system. A big part of kids to learn knowledge is from school, but in school Hmong Americans mostly study American culture and its tradition, so they have no idea about Hmong culture. And if the situation keeps up, Hmong history and culture will get lost in American Hmong.
As a international, I can totally understand what the author are saying about. No matter in class or in other places, you can find your hometown culture very rarely. And I am even a Chinese which is a very big part in American society. However, as a Hmong, I even can not imagine that how can they know their culture if there is no education for them.
For school, I can understand that teachers do not teach them about Hmong culture, because it is not possible that we take care every community. Therefore, I think the most important way for Hmong to study their own cultures is from their family. Parents are supposed to teach their children their culture language and some traditions. For example, I had a classmate in my high school and he lived in Canada until high school. However, he can speak Chinese very well and he told us that he speck English and live like a Canadian at school but speak Chinese and follow Chinese traditions at home. In my opinion, it is what Hmong or any other communities should follow.
