Haolin Li, Week 8, A01

In the reading article of this week, Genevieve Erin O'Brien, the author was unequally treated as a professor in University because of she is colored. Unlike other withe professors, she did not receive the amount of salary that she deserves. She had to teach 5 courses per semesters, which would cost her a lot of time. Also, she needs to pay huge among of tax. However, she only received little salary from the university. Just like those garment workers, domestic workers, and restaurant workers, she worked long time, had many fees need to pay, but only receive little money. Many researches showed that colored women like Asian American women receive lower salary as compared to white colleges on average. Lower salary will decrease their enthusiasm of working, but Asian American women are always expected to have high performance. As for the author of Genevieve Erin O'Brien, she must spend a lot of years and worked very hard to get her PHD but she did not receive the reward she deserved. This is a tragedy in academic area.
