In week 6, I read "Opening the Box: An International Asian Woman Scholar's Fight" and "How to leave Academic".

In"Opening the Box: An International Asian Woman Scholar's Fight", Professor Takeyama wrote about her experience of fighting for tenure. She told us that colleges hire international scholars because they knew these scholars will gain lots of support in their rights. Many challenges appears in international scholar's academic work. So, she fight for herself. Finally, she wins this fight. However, she realized that there exists a huge discrimination in gender in academic area.

The author wants to raise the awareness of the unfairness treatment between men and woman in U.S. academic. She wants to break the silence and point out the problem to changed this unfair system.

I was impressed by Professor Takeyama's courage and her determination of trying to change the unfairness of U.S. academic system. Leader is so important in a revolution. People need to be aware of this unequal and fight for it together. I believe as more and more people participate in the fight of righteous, we will success!

This is a story with "happy ending", however, I also read the article "How to Leave Academia". In "How to Leave Academia", the author Rani Neutill wrote her sixteen years in academia and how she left, because she lose the fight of fighting with the injustice of U.S academic system. "This chapter highlights the ills of a system that overproduces doctorates while exploiting the temporary workers that have grown dramatically in academia". The purpose of this article is to provide some information to those who decide to leave the academy.

There are so many choices in our life. We never know which is the best. Sometimes, taking another choice may help you to be a better person.

Question: what is the most effective way to aware people the injustice in academic system?
