Week6 Yuzhe Zhang, A01

Week 6 blog

Yuzhe Zhang, A01

Nowadays, in most of the countries, people no longer worry about their food and clothing. Instead, people are paying more attention to their mental health. “Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.” (Mentalhealth.gov, 2017). Among those Asian Americans, mental health problems are especially common. Except for the pressure of daily life and study, “Asian American students often face culturally related factors” (NEW AMERICA MEDIA, 2013). This problem is so common and serious that it caused thousands of students die every year. In a research made by Ministry of Education of China More than 45 percent of international students are prone to depression.

According to my feelings, most of the schools do not pay enough attention to this problem. The absence of psychological clinics and high cost becomes two most serious obstacles. And there’s another problem: Most students who have psychological problems do not even realize that they need to see a psychiatrist.

Question: What can schools do to maintain international students’ mental health?
