Opening the reading this week “Empire of Death and the Plague of Civic Violence” by Darrell Y. Hamamoto, I was not expecting an article filled with serial killing and massive murders that happened in the US. This arrival mainly talked about the unnatural deathly of Asians/colored people that’s done by whites people due to racial discrimination. And not surprisingly, most targets of victims are Southern Asian. After the Vietnam War, people are traumatized and these Southern Asian figures became taught as bad people. There are then crimes happened on these people based on racial discrimination. I was really surprised how the killer in one story could get away just by convincing the police that he was not the one that hurt the boy, and the police chose to “degrade” the boy as well just because of racial discrimination. Episode like this is so hard for me to imagine as I grew up with friendly people from all races around me. Asians were seen as the “enemies” due to the war, and this caused suffering for millions of people even until nowadays. There are for sure still places and people have this “hatred towards Asians ” and it needs a lot more time and effort to clear this discrimination.
Question: Since when and how is the stereotype of Asian women developed?
