Week 7_Annalisa Dailo_A02

In this week's reading, the theme is criminalization of undocumented immigrants and how these individuals are having a difficult time trying to survive under the most basic conditions. The problem that they face is that in order to do these basic things in the U.S., such as driving, working in a business, etc., they need to have a driver's license and multiple other documents in relation to citizenship. Because of this, undocumented people are on the brink of getting caught; it leads them to do break some laws, such as driving without a license.

When this happens, they're put into prison, typically a for-profit prison. The problem with this is that the prison in itself has its own reputation of problems. In the reading, it mentioned how even the "professionals" that work there lack the training to be there. This leads to the mistreatment of inmates and the causation of risk of mental health factors. Why should the undocumented individuals be put in a prison with other inmates that have probably done other crimes that were a lot worse than what they have done? There should be a different way as to how this should be approached in that improving the system and finding how to go about the undocumented citizen problem. 

Question: What are better approaches to handling the undocumented?
