Kenta Nishiyama week 2 A03

From the reading, "Beyond Tiger Mom Anxiety: Ethnic, Gender and Generational Differences in Asian American College Access and Choices", it does connect with the reading fro the previous week that Asia American has an image of positive stereotype, in which having a successful social status in the nation. However, this week`s reading has broadened the idea of Tiger parenting phenomenon. It is really interesting to know how the historical context of the minority model in the U.S will connect to the idea of strictness of Asian parents. Also, the idea of the college choice model is a sort of social engineering in the Asian culture, that it is normal and value to do. Also, the tiger parents phenomenon also reflect with the idea of the social construct of the generation gaps, due to how first-generation college students cannot entirely depend on their parents. This implies that how Asian culture is seen as a collective view and rely on their families but not their own. Sustaining the Asian status in the U.S by having higher education, occupying privilege stand and support from the old generation. Personally, I felt tiger parent is a stereotypical image towards Asian people especially Chinese, but the reading has acknowledged how it has established and created the way of living.
For the Tiger parenting, I mainly have seen from Chinese parent but not Japanese or Korean, is there a reason for it?
