Week 4-Tao Zheng-A03

In this week's article, "Why We Should Fear University, Inc," by Fredrik deBoer, the corporatism of American universities is discussed. Here, Fredrik is not talking about the corporation chains inside campus, but about how the universities operates like corporations. The role universities play drive further and further from the "academic enterprise". Specifically, there are more senior administrators than professors. The title of this article is why we should fear university Inc, or the corporatism of university. After reading this article, I started wondering how this phenomenon will impact the future of America as universities are supposed to train the future backbone of the society. In the article,  "Why We Should Fear University, Inc," Fredrik deBoer argues that this "creeping corporatism" of the American university has "created systems and procedures that sacrifice the needs of humans to the needs of institutions." I think this is all so true. University regards students like customers and the professors servers. And the service fee, the tuition is constantly rising without increasing opportunities of financial aid. The too-expensive tuition prevents people with not enough money to get a good degree and get a good job. It's a vicious cycle. At the end of the article, Fredrik calls on the student to lead the way to reserve  and revive the wild to serve their own human needs. But what can powerless students do to reserve the wild and stop the corporatism of universities? Image result for corporatism
