Week 3

Week 3
Vance Lockmiller
Section A02

In this weeks reading, Beyond Tiger Mom Anxiety:Ethnic, Gender and Generational Differences in Asian American College Access Choices, authors  OiYan Poon and Ajani Byrd discussed the
relationship between tiger moms and the expectations they had for their children.  According to Google,
the basic definition of the phrase "Tiger Mom" is a mom who is raising their children in a strict Chinese
way such as having strict rules which in turn will help them have a more successful future.  While
reading this article, I found myself relating to it.  My parents always wanted me to be successful.  The
example I remember was in high school where they always wanted me to have all A's and maintain above
a 4.0 GPA.  Whenever I wanted to play video games or go out, my parents were always against it by
suggesting you can do this instead or you should study more for class. My picture is just a chain with
a heavy iron ball attached to a leg.  I chose this one because I think it depicts Tiger Moms in the sense
that if the parent is the heavy ball and the leg is that of the child, the child is restricted to what they do.

Q: Is there a big possibility for children who have tiger moms to become a tiger mom for their children?

that the article had right on the first page.
