Section A02
Week 2
The article,
“Hmong Does Not Mean Free: The Miseducation of Hmong Americans “by “Kaozong N. Mouavangsou”, had a lot of eye opening information.
The one specific category that caught my attention the most was when Mouavangsou
talked about the Hmong people history and how they were missing from the US
history. When I look back at the time when I was studying US history, I
remember the history books really only had one point of view to their
textbooks. It never really occurred to me that these textbooks are only telling
one side of the story and not the story as a whole. It is very unfair for them
to be leaving out crucial information that happened during the Vietnam War. The
Hmong people were present, yet they were misrepresented or not even mentioned
at all in many textbooks. I believe this article is important because it
highlights the issue that the US may be representing for them. That issue being
that they are being biased and only telling their side of the story without
giving credit to others involved. By reading this article, I believe that we
have a right to really understand what happened and not to be blindsided and
manipulated into believing what the American authors want us to believe. It is
important to get exposure into what the reality of the situation was and for us
to be attentive and question what else the US might be mis-communicating to
their citizens and residents.
Question: How
can we know that we are being told the truth when it comes to matters of the US
informing us of information? How do we question their credibility?
