The Imperial University
4/30/17

In Fiya Chatterjee and Sunaina Maira’s article, The Imperial University: Race, War, and the Nation-State, they talk about how our educational system is geared toward the benefit of imperialism. Students are the army which supplies action and success within America and helps pave the way for the cycle of future individuals to pursue higher education to do the same. The idea of the Imperialist University is tactically based, and in order to engage students to provide themselves into the commitment of education, we are trained since birth to uphold the ideals of pursuing education for “our” benefit.
Analyzing the text was very complex and a lot of ideas were covered, but it made sense. As we pursue higher education, we work toward an end-goal that benefits the Unites States moreso ourselves. Needless to say, we have no control whether we provide for this country or not, and education is an exemplified facet in which a mass amount of the country partakes in daily. Our intellectuals and scholarship play an important role in U.S. expansionism as if we are pawns toward the bigger picture that is America. This article related to the theme of the Imperial University because as students we are here to educate and develop ourselves to be able to live in succeed in our future aspirations. To say we benefit something bigger than ourselves would be very capitalist and it comes to question who we are actually doing it all for. It just goes to show that since we are in charge of our success, we need to retake our education to benefit us in the ways we wish to see before the country. By doing this, we become the initial priority and not the storm troopers of the sith we serve.

Question:
Does the Imperial University truly benefit us, or is a means to challenge us?
