K-Pop Breakthrough

Taimu Yamauchi
Section A01

The reading “Korean American Youth and Transnational Flows of Popular Culture across the Pacific” by Jun-Sun Park, is about how Korean popular culture has had a huge impact in the United States. Not only has Korean pop culture had a big impact in the US, but it has a global affect. K-Pop and K-Dramas are considered to be among the best out of the Asian countries, and through personal experience, I know that both are very popular in Japan. Korean pop stars are also popular, such as Girls Generation and Super Junior. Most recently, the song Gangnam   Style by Psy has become a hit globally, to an extend that at one point in time it was hard to go a day without hearing the song somewhere.

With Korean pop culture becoming popular in the US, I feel that not only is the Asian community in the US being brought together, but the US in general are becoming more and more open to Asian pop culture in general, due to the Korean pop culture becoming a big hit.

How do Koreans think of the K-pop breakthroughs in the US?
