CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK AND CURRENT EVENTS

Coronavirus has obviously been a hot topic of conversation in the last few months, which is very understandable considering the world is in crisis. This has been a very strange experience for the entire population, and personally, I have found it hard to adapt. I have never experienced anything like this in my lifetime that has hit so close to home, I say this because I was around when 9/11 occurred but I was too young to remember. I think that the thing that people are struggling with the most is going from living our chaotic, schedule filled lives to hardly being able to leave our homes. Although there could be worse places to be stuck than your own home, but no doubt has this adjustment been easy for anyone, as it strongly disrupts the basics of human life. With that being said, it is important to keep a positive mindset during times like these, as it would be easy to only focus on the negative and complain about the situation. Life is constantly moving and never really slows down, so many are finding it useful to take this time to refocus, recharge, and personally reflect. This would be the best case, but some people are still trying to normalize the situation and are continuing to go against government requests, such as making nonessential outings. This is very frustrating as we could slow this spread down drastically if everyone did their part and self quarantined. I am from Canada, and in my province we are making great strides in flattening the curve, whereas in the United States, daily case numbers continue to rise due to carelessness and government intervention. Going forward, it would be great to see citizens of every country using their best effort to stay home in order to try to slow the number of cases, and finally give some relief to the healthcare workers who are working so hard to try to manage this chaos. At what point will people realize that this is very serious and precautions must take place worldwide?

Being a Caucasian female from out of the United States in this class, I am hoping to learn more about the Asian American population, and to better inform myself on past and present issues that this community experiences. I am going into this class with an open mind, with the hope of finishing it with more knowledge on topics that we discuss.
