Patrick Choi, ASA 002 A04, Week 1 Blog

As everyone knows, a novel coronavirus has been making its way throughout the world and forced a lockdown in many US states.

A concern I’ve had during the pandemic was the inefficient government leadership from the US. It seems the president and his administration has been making questionable choices for a majority of cases regarding the virus, such as downplaying it and blaming an ethnicity by calling it the “China Virus”. It seems like the administration is taking it more seriously now and I hope that measures will be taken so that Americans will receive the healthcare they require and will recover financially.

As to how coronavirus has affected me, I’ve had a lot of anxiety as to how the quarter will go. Fortunately, both me and my family are not particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus and our family still has a source of income. I’ve been staying home all day except when I go to a nearby park to get some exercise. I hope this course could give me a broader sense of what it means to be Asian American. I’m embarrassingly uneducated when it comes to Asian American history, so hopefully I’ll come out this class a little wiser. I also wish to better my writing and critical thinking skills. It seems like this class will be more like an ethnic studies class rather than a traditional history class, which I am excited for.

Question: How will our healthcare system be reformed once coronavirus concerns cool down and everything “goes back to normal”?
