Georgina Liu ASA2 A03 Week 1

Georgina Liu ASA2 A03 Week 1

As a known fact, coronavirus has spread for months. The first case of an infected patient was discovered in Wuhan, China. I always read the newest update of coronavirus for two reasons.
First of all, numerous people get infected and died due to coronavirus in all over the world. The number is enormous, and lots of people are scared by the number of patients. Secondly, coronavirus largely influences people's lives in a bad way. people are forced to stay at home. They cannot work at their workplace. Also, students cannot go to school and lose their opportunities to socialize. A huge inconvenience is caused by the coronavirus.
On the other hand, the discrimination for Asian people especially Chinese is raising every day. Some US citizens assert that coronavirus comes from China and all Chinese people are the sources for this virus. These racists even abuse Asian people in public or beat Asian people. According to the recent news on CNN, "In New York City, a man assaults a woman wearing a face mask, calling her a "diseased b****." On a Los Angeles subway, a man proclaims Chinese people are filthy and says, "every disease has ever came from China." The expert of coronavirus in China recommends people to wear a mask to avoid the infection of coronavirus. However, Asian people are being discriminated against by other races of people. A woman is easier to get assaulted and even being beat by a racist. According to the book named "Fight for Tower" written by Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde, "we are perceived as easy targets for discrimination and dismissal based on these assumptions, and because our numbers are still kept disproportionately low in academic institutions, many wrongly surmise we are not capable of collective action."
Last but not least, my question for the coronavirus is that why people are still discriminate against others when facing such a serious virus? In my opinion, all human beings should fight together to die out coronavirus. Instead of discrimination and criticizing our governments, we should gather together to help people defend coronavirus and provide necessities for people in need.  And my expectation for this course is learning about the history of Asian Americans in the United States. I can figure out why Asian Americans are always labeled with some stereotypes and why they always face discrimination.
