Alissa R Ackerman and Rich Furman discussed a serious
problem of immigration. As I know, even in today’s largely peaceful world, the
phenomenon of immigration still exists. Some immigrated for asylum while others
immigrate for better life. In some countries in the Middle East, people immigrate
to avoid the hazards of the war. However, more people immigrate for better
life. Take China as an example, there are more than 200,000 people every year leave
China and settled permanently in other countries (Baidu, 2018), and four most
popular countries are America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Why so many people keen on immigration even if it
cost them lot of money and effort? One obvious reason is for better life. Suppose
a man who aspires freedom is born in a country that has so many restrictions (from
culture, religion or conventions), he must want to escape. Another reason I
think might they want to create a better future for their children. There’s an
old saying says: “One generation plant the tree in whose shade where another
generation rest.” Education levels vary from place to place, and the pursuit for
better education is everyone’s aspiration.
There maybe many other reasons, and immigration has
become a hot issue all over the world.
My question is: Can governments find some of their
own shortcomings through the phenomena of immigration?
