Week 7 Kenta Nishiyama A03

The reading from " The criminalization of immigration and privatization of the immigration detention: implication for justice" written by Ackerman and Furman, stated how privatization has contributed to the profit corporation by the undocumented immigrants. Personally, the major incidents that relate both criminalization and incarceration of immigrants were the September 11, 2001, case, and it enforces the federal law from restricting the number of migration especially undocumented ones. At the same times, the prevalence of neoliberalism has been a trend in the world, where global institutions and corporation has been involving the states. More companies have provided and facilities the construction of the prisons, receiving a tremendous amount of profits. However, it surprised me that there is a decline of prisoners in the 1970s, affecting the profits from the corporation. Also, as the corporation is getting lower revenues, the government has a repsonbilliy to correct and privatize the states. As a result, it changes and demands a policy for immigrant detention. For instance, the establishment of Immigration policy center or the progressive policy centers, focusing the criminalization towards immigrants people. This helps the corporation to stabilize their profits and support national security. Personally, it is shame to hear how governments support the privatization and support the powerful sides.
